I was a bit surprised today to find that databases have a
MAX() function that handles string input. It shouldn’t be surprising, because it makes perfect sense.
I was working in Oracle, but it turns out that the MySQL equivalent function has this feature too, which means it is probably a common feature in DBMSs. Where have I been?
