Here’s something you can do to track those who track your use of the Internet.

An add-on for Firefox called Collusion (more recently called Lightbeam) helps you to track the companies that track your use of the Internet and stop much of it from occurring. The software works in the background logging the web bugs and cookies that companies use to track you.

In theory, there is now a way to ask that we are not tracked while using the web, but it is just a proposal. It is called Do Not Track, however none of the trackers seem to take notice of the setting yet.
